Each flowsheet in a simulation model can be solved in steady state or dynamics, and different types of flowsheets provide tailored workspaces for models of processing facilities, pipe networks or flare systems. The steady state solver in the pipe and flare workspaces provides a unique combination of a pressure flow network solver and a sequential solver depending on the specifications. The Symmetry platform’s tailored workspaces include: VMGSim (World-class process simulation for facilities and plants); Pipe (Rigorous dynamic and steady-state multiphase modeling for complex pipe networks); Flare (All-inclusive relief system analysis with integrated PSV, network header and stack design); Field (Fully integrated gas reservoir and multiphase gathering system with forecasting functionality).

The VMGSim (Process), Pipe and Flare workspaces share the same proces platform therefore they share the same extensive set of tools including regression, an optimizer, economics, connectivity and fluid characterization. The thermodynamic engine is consistent across the entire simulator and becomes a critical component of an integrated simulation model. Workspaces are tailored with specific features and views to promote common workflows and increase productivity. The flexible design of the Symmetry platform enables users to create simulations for a wide variety of applications and uses, from conceptual design to optimization and debottlenecking. RES3DINVx64 - 3D RESISTIVITY & IP INVERSION software. In areas with complex structures, there is no substitute for a fully 3D survey. The arrays supported include the pole-pole, pole-dipole, inline dipole-dipole, equatorial dipole-dipole and Wenner-Schlumberger and non-conventional arrays. The RES3DINV program uses the smoothness-constrained least-squares inversion technique to produce a 3D model of the subsurface from the apparent resistivity data. The RES3DINVx64 Basic program supports up to 8 GB RAM, while RES3DINVx64 Professional supports up to 192 GB RAM. The data inversion takes less than a minute for small surveys with 100 electrodes in a flat area, to about an hour for extremely large surveys with 3000 electrodes in rugged terrain. The program will automatically choose the optimum inversion parameters for a data set. However, the parameters that affect the inversion process can be modified by the user. The inversion settings can be optimized for areas where the subsurface resistivity varies in a smooth manner, or optimized for areas with sharp boundaries. Topographic effects can be incorporated into the model by using a distorted finite-element grid such that the surface of the grid matches the topography.

RES2DINVx64 - 2D RESISTIVITY & IP INVERSION software. Two-dimensional (2D) electrical imaging surveys are now widely used to map areas of moderately complex geology where 1D resistivity sounding surveys are inadequate. The RES2DINVx64 programs use the smoothness-constrained Gauss-Newton least-squares inversion technique (Sasaki 1992) to produce a 2D model of the subsurface from the apparent resistivity data. It is completely automatic and the user does not even have to supply a starting model. On a modern PC, the inversion of a single pseudosection is usually completed within seconds to minutes. It supports the Wenner, Schlumberger, pole-pole, pole-dipole, dipole-dipole, multiple gradient and non-conventional arrays. The program will automatically choose the optimum inversion parameters for a data set. However, the inversion parameters can be modified by the user. The smoothing filter can be adjusted to emphasize resistivity variations in the vertical, horizontal or diagonal directions. It can also be optimized to produce models with smooth boundaries (for eg. chemical plumes), or with sharp boundaries (for eg. fracture zones). Resistivity information from borehole and other sources can also be included to constrain the inversion process. Known boundaries where an abrupt change in the resistivity occurs can also be incorporated in the inversion model. Three different techniques for topographic modeling (Loke 2000) are available. The complex resistivity method (Kenma et al. 2000) is used for IP data inversion.
