Paradigm 17 Software
Paradigm 17 Full Suite

Paradigm 17

High-definition seismic acquisition and well log data are now common among oil and gas companies. But having spent significant amounts on acquiring the data, organizations still lack the tools to extract the deeper levels of information available. The challenge extends from data processing and imaging to tying to logs, performing interpretations, honoring complex geology in the model, and outputting it all into simulation. With this in mind, and based on a long history of innovation, Paradigm has undertaken to create the first high-definition software platform to ensure that investments in data acquisition result in added value to drilling, completion and production. In Paradigm 17, the latest version of our solution suite, we leverage a high-definition platform, cloud computing, and the integration of Machine Learning, along with advanced technology and seamless integration, to improve asset team effectiveness in achieving superior decision-making results.

Paradigm 17 enables users to:

  • Work within a truly integrated ecosystem, for everything from well log analysis to seismic imaging, interpretation, and modeling.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of assets through the use of all available data in integrated workflows, including the consolidation of interpretation windows in a single application in SeisEarth.
  • Recover, process and visualize all available data from seismic for better imaging and property distribution.
  • Use the multi-2D line framework for processing and imaging to maximize productivity and minimize manual intervention.
  • Better identify sweet spots through advanced well log analysis.
  • Perform detailed interpretation of high angle and horizontal wells with the help of advanced 3D petrophysics, and use extended engineering capabilities to plan, complete, and produce with greater confidence.
  • Benefit from Machine Learning technology to extrapolate property probabilities away from the well bore.

AD-GPRS Software

The Automatic Differentiation General Purpose Research Simulator (AD-GPRS) is a flexible and extensible multiphysics simulation platform. It employs automatic differentiation to construct the Jacobian allowing for an easy extension to new physics and constitutive relations, as well as for complete flexibility in the specification of independent variables, which leads to a unified simulator for different formulations and solution strategies. There are no assumptions about the underlying grid structure thus unstructured grids are supported for accurate representation of the complex structure and heterogeneity of subsurface formations. Fully implicit or sequentially implicit time-discretization schemes are available. The latter is designed for handling different physical sub-problems with flexible coupling strategies. AD-GPRS can be used, for example, to simulate enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes, CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers and depleted oil reservoirs, shale gas/oil production, and enhanced steam injection.

Currently, AD-GPRS consists of the following modules:

  • Flow
    General component-based reservoir simulation tool. Several widely used variable formulations (natural and molar) and solution strategies are incorporated, including Black Oil, fully EoS (two- and three-phase, as well as support for external libraries), and K-value formulation.
  • Thermal
    Adds support for thermal-compositional flows, for example, for simulation of steam injection or geothermal reservoirs.
  • Geomechanics
    Simulates complex mechanical behavior including plastic deformation and thermal effects. Helps to understand physical processes for fractured and faulted reservoirs. Incorporates poro-elastic, thermo-elastic, and general poro-thermo-plastic models with complete flexibility in adding new constitutive relations. Can be used, for instance, for coupled simulations of gas production from a naturally fractured reservoir, steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD).
  • Chemical reactions
    Capable of modeling kinetic and equilibrium reactions. Supports both natural and overall-composition variable formulations. Adds a key component for simulation of in-situ upgrading of oil-shale or CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers.
  • Wells
    The wellbore flow and the near-well flow behavior have an important impact on well performance. Different techniques have been developed to model multiphase flow through the wellbore. We account for thermal and compositional effects. Currently supported well models include standard well, multi-segment well, and heater model.

Ce.A.S. ParatiePlus v17.0.5 Software
Ce.A.S. s.r.l. ParatiePlus v17.0.5

Ce.A.S. ParatiePlus v17.0.5

In Italy as well as in many Countries worldwide, several designers rely on Paratie Plus in their retaining wall projects. For example, in the construction of the High Speed Trains guyed bridge over Po River near Piacenza, several cofferdams and other waterfront structures had been designed by our engineers using past versions of Paratie Plus. More recently, thank to the same design tool, other Italian engineering firms, have designed the temporary cofferdams for all river crossings along the new high speed train line linking Milano to Brescia. Stemming from a cooperation, since 1985, with professor Roberto Nova from Politecnico di Milano, Paratie Plus is a non linear analysis program conceived to model the soil-structure interaction of a flexible retaining wall, by means of the popular subgrade reaction method, a simple yet widely accepted approach in current design practice as well as by most of design standard worldwide, including Eurocodes.

Thanks to its effectiveness, Paratie Plus is a simple yet accurate retaining wall design tool. In most cases, a Paratie Plus analysis can be sufficient to completely define a wall design. However, even in very complex situations, Paratie Plus may provide valuable design information, at least in the preliminary design stages: if required, selected final layout will be more thoroughly analyzed, with more advance but complex programs such as FLAC.

Since 2009, Paratie Plus evolved towards an integrated design environment, which offers several additional analysis options, including slope stability analysis and 2D seepage analysis. Some of the most relevant Paratie Plus features, which are hardly found in competitor tools on the market, are listed here:
  • a rigorous soil model formulation within modern Soil Mechanics framework;
  • a special constitutive model for clays in both drained and undrained conditions, based on critical state concepts;
  • a realistic construction stage modelling, even for quite complex sequences;
  • a general seepage scheme for layered soils;
  • external loadings and interaction with nearby foundations modelling;
  • in any construction stage, support and loading layout can be modified arbitrarily ( special non linear supports, prestressed ground anchors, struts, slabs and other features are allowed);
  • two facing walls can be modelled thus allowing a coupled analysis of a sheetpile and its anchoring wall;
  • a pseudo-static seismic procedure is included, based on a well documented proprietary algorithm;
  • a GUI interface including, among many other features, a complete set of online correlations to assist the Users in selecting appropriate soil parameters based on most common in situ or lab tests;
  • a linkage with the modern Limit Stated design methods, according to Eurocodes 7 and 8 as well as to NTC, EC2 , EC3 , AISC and ACI, for structural checks.
